A couple of Taiwanese brothers brought the taste of Taiwanese street food to Johannesburg with Momo Soko, the sister restaurant of the well-known Momo Baohaus in Greenside. The dishes have a few variations, such as Chinese, Korean, and Japanese influences.
There are eleven soko to pick from at Momo Soko, all named after mountains (the concept was inspired by the word momo, which in Nepali means dumpling).
Notable dishes include the Aconcagua, a zesty prawn skewer tossed with ginger, scallions, garlic, and sesame, enhanced with a splash of lemon; the lamb Matterhorn skewer topped with green basil and mint; and the Kilimanjaro, chicken seasoned with ginger, cumin, and chili.
The restaurant atmosphere is relaxing and cozy. The staff is friendly and well-mannered. The menu items are prepared from fresh ingredients. The service is quick. The prices are affordable.
